BBC on the London riots
The BBC recently aired two documentaries with last year's London riots as subject. Part one gave the perspective of the rioters themselves and Part two gave the Police’s side of the riots. The BBC used actors to represent both sides so the interviews were not ‘live’ or actual footage of the 'real' participants.
The two programs did not go into the unlawful murder of Mark Duggan by the police and the fact that shot fired by Mark Duggan (as the so – called truthful honest Metropolitan Police would like you to believe) that ended up in one of the police officers radio was a ‘police issued’ bullet! This finding was made by the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission) and conveniently left out by the British state broadcaster.
The riots were fuelled by the police’s inability to face the family and the public outside Tottenham police station and the London Metropolitan Building. Young people who were raging at the police's indiscriminate use of ‘Stop and Search’ policy. Anti-terrorism laws effectively mean the police can pick up a black/asian/muslim/Islamic person because of their ethnicity. Young people had enough and their anger exploded down in Tottenham and spread quickly across the other London Borough’s. Those selectively edited/interviewed expressed deep anger at the cuts to their services – the blatant racism of the police.
The men and women of all ages were fed up with the stereotyping of themselves and their local community by the state media and the cops. There was resentment from one lady who felt the riots was a lost opportunity to completely take on the cops as she felt that ‘opportunists’ had use the riots to do mass looting up and down England whereas she wanted to tackle the police.
The people went onto express anger at Youth Centres being closed – youth budgets being cut as much as 75% - living in poverty – the fact that there are 54 people competing and chasing for job vacancy in London.
The BBC wanted to present the rioters as thieves without any cause and selectively showed scenes of thieves robbing thieves to let off the Police and State of any responsibility for the riots.
The second part (both on BBC2 NI) was more glorifying of the old message, “the true grit of the british bobby with his iron fist and trusty extendable baton” standing up to opportunist thugs while protecting the great british public from anarchy and disaster.
The BBC like RTE were textbook showing the ‘bravery’ of the state's security forces and ‘Iron man – law & order’ Mr David Cameron Prime Minister of Britain with his Eton University background coming back from his holiday like a comic superhero to save the ruling classes – the wealthy - and probably his Tory Donors – to save England from the angry and exploited people from poverty stricken communities that he and successive Govts have helped to depress and beat down with ‘Anti – Terrorism Acts’ and ‘Stop and Search’.
The BBC to sum up only covered some of the truth and the rest was made up spin to please the Murdoch Empire and the political classes while never dealing with the injustice of the state murder Mark Duggan and the lack of justice to the Duggan family and decades of resentment by people of all ages who live under the exploitation of Capitalism and the heavy boot and of the Police!
