F G Wilson - occupy to save jobs

760 workers are set to loose their jobs in F.G. Wilson. The company plans to relocate to Tianjin in China .

The company has more than doubled its profits to £7.8 million in the past year. Profits are up ,so why should we accept job losses?

Whilst the bosses think they can get away with sacking workers , they are terrified of resistance and people fighting back.

The only way these jobs can be saved is by a sustained fight against the bosses cuts.

Several years ago workers at the Visteon plant received massive support from the community and trade unions when they occupied their workplace after being given minutes notice to vacate their lockers and leave the factory. Workers refused to leave and occupied for months .

East Antrim MP and Finance minister Sammy Wilson said about the job losses-“What we have to do now is look and see what can be done for those being made unemployed”

East Antrim Sin Fein MLA Oliver McMullan appealed to FG Wilson to give workers their full redundancy entitlements. This doesn’t cut it.

Over the last few years the company received £46 million of taxpayers money from Invest NI. Instead of kneeling before the bosses and looking like a bunch of helpless stooges ,the Executive should claw back the millions from FG Wilson and save the workers jobs.

The only way this is possible is with resistance. Time and time again when faced with resistance Stormont folded because of pressure from ordinary people.
