Protest at first day of Dail
On Tuesday 18th September Home Help workers, clients, supporters and campaigners will protest at Dail Eireann in order to highlight the recent shameful decision by Fine Gael & the Labour Party to savagely cut 600,000 home help hours and 200 home care packages and to demand that these cuts be reversed immediately.
We now know where the interests of Fine Gael and the Labour Party politicians lie: they will impose upon the people cut back after cut back whilst treating the rich to our money. On 1st October, the Irish government will place into the bank accounts of rich bondholders €1billion of our money; in order to save some €10 million, this same government are happy to target the elderly, the infirm, the disabled, children with life-limiting illnesses, all of whom depend upon the care services that are faced with such massive cuts.
So whilst bankers, bondholders and the Irish rich are protected some of our most vulnerable citizens are faced with the dire consequences of a much reduced care service. Already this year 500,000 home help hours have been cut; a further reduction of 600,000 hours will decimate the home care sector and lead to many more home help workers and their clients suffering further hardship.
The only winners will be the businesses that have set up to provide the Home Help service and who are now given preference by the HSE over the Not for Profit organisations that have been doing the job for decades.
This is more of the Fine Gael/Labour agenda to move to privatisation of the public sector and it will be a disaster for our society. We cannot leave it up to the Home Helps themselves to fight the HSE. We have to support them and get on board with their campaign to save their jobs and the services.
So come to the protest at the Dail on Tues 18 Sept @ 6pm
Bring your work colleagues, family and friends and help build a campaign to reverse these austerity cuts and stop the privatisation of this most vital caring service.
