Stop The Closure Of Roscommon Hospital!

15/08/2010

Mary Harney and the Fianna Fail-Green government are destroying our health service and Roscommon General Hospital could be next on the target list.
Don’t believe the soothing propaganda from FF politicians and their friends in the media that there is no threat. You will have to really fight to keep the hospital open.
The only reason there are savage cuts is to help subsidise the banking system.
The government has just announced that €24 billion will be handed over to Anglo-Irish Bank. That is the equivalent of a year and a half of the whole health budget.
Or – even more scandalously – it is more than the €20 billion G-8 leaders pledged to combat starvation among the estimated 650 million people in the world who now face chronic malnutrition.
STEP UP THE ACTION
Fianna Fail hope that this protest will just ‘blow off steam’ and that there will be no serious follow up.
This is how they have gotten away with closures in other towns, such as Dundalk.
That is why we urge everyone on this march to press for two things:
1. Hold a national demonstration on heath. Don’t just see this as a local fight. We need to link up with other health campaigns. On September 29th, there is an all European Day of Action against the cuts. Why not make that day for protests.
2. Escalate the protests. If any move is made against the hospital, the unions should call a local stoppage and urge everyone to come out. We also need a campaign of mass civil disobedience – it is the only to make this hard nosed, right wing government back down.
