13/13A Bus Protest in Ballymun

The people of Ballymun pledge to fight to the end to save their bus service

Public Protest Thursday 15 September 2011 at 11.30am Axis Centre Ballymun Road Dublin 9

There is growing anger and mounting frustration amongst the residents of Ballymun at the continued intransigence of Dublin Bus management as they proceed with their plans to scrap the 13A completely and to reduce the service on the 13 route. Sunday 25th September has been announced this week as the date the cuts to the Ballymun bus service will be implemented. Despite hundreds of signatures being collected and several well attended public meetings on the issue in the area and the interaction of the Save Our Bus Services campaign with Dublin Bus management, it appears that they will not listen. So the residents of Sillogue, Poppintree, Coultry and Shangan will take to the streets tomorrow to make it clear to Dublin Bus that the people are not happy and they want their bus service left intact.
Tony Greene, local resident and activist, commented: "Once again, the people of Ballymun will have to take to the streets to fight for a vital public service. We have seen a savage attack on the buses that serve this area over the past couple of years. They already cut the 13s in 2009, then they cut the No. 4 last year and they're back again to cut the 13s. It's too much for one area to take. We have a week and a half left to force Dublin Bus into making a u-turn. Most people I know depend on their bus - to get to work, to school, to pick up their pensions - so if Dublin Bus go ahead and cut the service again it'll will be very damaging to the community here. We can't let that happen. We won't let that happen. That's what the protest tomorrow is all about."
