Thousands of anti fascists protest across Greece

Author:

Report by Dave Sewell. Thousands of Anti-fascist protesters filled the streets of Athens on Saturday 19 January in an enormous demonstration against Golden Dawn.
This fascist party has rapidly become the third party in Greece, with 18 MPs and a strong showing in the polls.

Its logo is closely modeled on the Nazi swastika, and its members have led violent attacks on migrant workers and the left.

Egyptian socialists statement on Gaza

Author:
Egyptian revolutionaries

In the midst of what is called ‘The Arab Spring’, Gaza’s Winter continues. Zionist shelling has so far killed more than ten martyrs, including children and even babies.

Hundreds have been wounded, Gaza’s hospitals are overflowing, and the ‘good citizens’ of the world are rolling up their sleeves and preparing to provide relief, as if the people were victims of a volcanic explosion or an earthquake, rather than facing Zionist colonialism which enjoys the support of the Great Powers, and acts as the watchdog for their interests in the region.

Greece: fighting the fascists

Author:
Nicos Loudos

Nikos Loudos analyses what lies behind the rise of Golden Dawn, and how the movement against racism and austerity can stop it

The rise of Golden Dawn in Greece has caused shivers across Europe. It is an openly Nazi organisation that hails Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.

Its members systematically murder and wound migrants. They throw petrol bombs at mosques and say that every woman’s place is at home.

Greece hasn’t become fascist, as some commentators are too easily concluding. But support for Golden Dawn is growing.

Author:
Dave Gaughran

The publishing of anti-Muslim cartoons in a French magazine has more in common with the publication of anti-Jewish cartoons in 1920’s and 1930’s Germany than it does with a defence of freedom of speech and expression.

Traveller week: Discrimination still an issue

Author:
Karl Gill

Much like anti-working class discrimination, Traveller discrimination seems to be an acceptable form of prejudice in modern Ireland. In everyday society words like ‘tinker’ or ‘pikey’ seem to be thrown around as if there is nothing wrong with these sweeping insults. In Dublin city centre it is a common thing for pubs and clubs to refuse to serve travellers and people are often asked to leave
