During Minister’s Questions today, People Before Profit TD, Richard Boyd Barrett, challenged Minister for Social Protection, that the JobBridge Scheme is being abused by private companies.
In February, Oxygen, who run the recycling plant in Ballyogan on behalf of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council took on a number of staff via the JobBridge scheme. These staff were trained by workers who then lost their jobs.

Responding to today’s announcement by the government of their latest plan to resolve the mortgage crisis, Richard Boyd Barrett TD, Finance spokesperson for People Before Profit/ULA said, the plan was a “wholly inadequate response to the scale of the crisis and would give Banks greater licence to harass already distressed mortgage holders.”
Deputy Boyd Barrett added that “only across the board write-down of unsustainable mortgages on family homes could resolve the problem relieve the crippling impact the mortgage crisis is having on the wider economy.”

At Leaders questions in the dáil today, Richard Boyd Barrett TD, Finance spokesperson for People before Profit-ULA, accused the Taoiseach of deliberate and shocking manipulation of the democratic process in order to cover up the real details of the property tax which will go through committee and final stages today with a government guillotine to be imposed this evening.

A new branch of People Before Profit was established this week in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow. 40 people attended a meeting organised by local activist Keith Gilligan.
Richard Boyd Barrett TD was welcomed down and discussed national issues and the need for a different kind of politics led from below.
‘Enough is enough’ was the theme of the meeting and it was obvious that people agreed that it was time for a real change and action.

The Irish government is giving away our natural resources. Oil and Gas exploration licences have been handed out to big multi nationals under terms that mean the Irish people do not gain jobs, a revenue stream or security of supply. Practices with serious environmental consequences, such as fracking, are not ruled out under law.

Labour Party engaged in elaborate charade on promissory note to sweeten the pill of further planned cuts and attacks on workers.
At leader’s questions today, Richard Boyd Barrett accused the Labour Party of being engaged in an “elaborate charade” in relation to a possible “deal” on the Anglo-Irish promissory note, in order to “sweeten the pill” of further planned cuts and particularly its plans to impose further austerity on front line public sector workers.
