Clare Daly’s resignation from the Socialist Party has led to conflicting statements. The Socialist Party claimed ‘She now places more value on her political connection with independent TD Mick Wallace than on the political positions of the Socialist Party’
By contrast, she has denied that this and claimed that the primary issue is building a broad, radical United Left Alliance rather than a smaller party like the SP.

Similar austerity measures will be imposed on Ireland when, like Greece, Ireland will need a second ‘bailout’ loan
Government’s ‘Action Plan for Jobs’ is pure fantasy

In an utterly disgraceful move the HSE has taken 5 of the ten social workers out of this area. The HSE Primary Care Generic Social Work Team in the Dublin West area was told on Wed 3 August that it is to loose 50% of its staff from Friday 12th August 2011. This is to facilitate the re-assignment of staff to child protection services.

The United Left Alliance held a successful national forum on Saturday with about 350 people in attendance . The mood at the daylong conference was very upbeat and confident. It is clear that a new left wing force is emerging with branches in most major towns in Ireland. Reports at the conference indicate that the ULA is already having a strong impact.
Paddy Healy, from the Workers and Unemployed Action Group, stated that a recent ULA bill on the JLCs in the Dail had severely rattled the Labour Party.

When I heard we would be celebrating our EU membership with a special sitting of the Dáil, I thought it was a sick joke. It just beggars belief that when this country is being crucified by an EU-IMF deal, the Government thinks we should celebrate our membership of the EU. It is beyond pathetic - the sick joke of a bankrupt Government.
